The Round Up Saloon: A Dallas Institution |
|
22 years as a grand champion Commercial Member:
from the very beginning. That is quite a record of long-time
involvement. But more than that, the owners of the Round Up,
Gary Miller and Alan Pierce have a significant record of personal
involvement with TGRA. Back in the late 70's Gary went to
the original Reno Rodeo. He came back to Texas and helped
form TGRA, serving as it's second State President in 1985.
At that same time, Alan was working in the Dallas Chapter,
serving as its President.
They both remain committed to the goals that motivated their
initial involvement. Says Alan, "TGRA is a great organization
that exists to promote gay rodeo and gay charities. We're
proud of the image and reputation of TGRA, and it fits The
Round Up like a glove!"
However, in all that time, they've never attended a Finals
Rodeo. So they are anxious to be a part of this one. "The
best gay cowboys and cowgirls in the country will be here
competing, and we're proud that Dallas and The Round Up could
welcome them and entertain them all!"
And that they will. The Round Up decorates the bar for all
special occasions, and IGRA Finals Rodeo is no exception!
Alan says, "Check out the Rodeo chutes on the dance floor.
We have additional bar stations set up to keep the drinks
flowing. We have a CD release party on Thursday night for
"Brokeback Mountain" with free copies of the soundtrack.
The Travel Chanel is also scheduled to be here that night
and do contestant and spectator interviews and get some footage
of the evening. We have a meet and greet that night to welcome
everyone. Friday and Saturday nights feature great country
dancing, and extra bartenders to speed things up! Sunday is
a Champions Meet and Greet following the Awards ceremony.
Sort of last chance to meet, rope and ride a cowboy! Drink
specials include 2-2-2, our $2.00 dom. longnecks, $2.00 well,
and $2.00 Schnapps, all night! Now that's a party!"
And don't forget that the Round Up is sponsoring a Rodeo Shuttle
to all you to park in Oak Lawn and get to the Rodeo and back
all weekend. A weekend pass is $10. Single round-trip tickets
are $5. More information
here.
The Round Up is strongly committed to the Dallas
community. As Alan points out, "I know this rodeo has
been a lot of work for a few people. It's success rides on
the planning, preparation, attendance, and execution of a
busy schedule that involves a whole lot people and events.
No small task! Dallas has hosted several national events including
Gay World Series for Gay Softball and has always risen to
each occasion. I'm confident that our guests will be made
to feel welcome, appreciated, and invited back. The Round
Up is proud to be a part of the organization and hosting this
event!"
